CBD Oil and the Endocannabinoid System – How Two Worlds Meet

Cannabinoids

The Endocannabinoid System

In 1992, a researcher discovered the existence of the Endocannabinoid system (ECS). It was later discovered that this system doesn’t only exist in humans, but also in many animals. This system is responsible for producing endogenous cannabinoids and the receptors that bind to them. It is a very complex system that is still under extensive studies.

Once cannabinoids are produced, the receptors bind to them and then break them down into finer compounds. In return, these finer compounds are exerted into the body to restore certain functions.

Research have found that there are 6 types of receptors: CB1, CB2, GPR18, GPR119, TRPV1, and GPR55. Each one of these receptors, when bound to a cannabinoid, have a different effect on a different part of the body. They are found in the following areas of the body:

  • CB1: Brain, digestive tract, kidney, lungs, spinal cord, fat cells, thyroid gland, adrenalin gland, muscle, and liver cells
  • CB2: Brain, immune system, nervous system, and digestive tract
  • GPR18: Immune system, bone marrow, and reproductive system
  • GPR119: Digestive tract and pancreas
  • GPR55: Immune system, intestines, bladder, and bone marrow

When consumers use CBD oil products, they help to stimulate the production of cannabinoids within the body. This means that the ECS receives much more compounds that can bind to different receptors in different parts of the body. Resulting in a higher efficiency relief.
