After The 2019 Mitsubishi Triton Athlete Run, Is It Worth Buying?

Mitsubishi Triton has a rich history dating back to 1974 which is probably the reason it stands out in the midst of the compact pickup tracks long list. Mitsubishi Motors Thailand launched the updated 2019 Triton with a new facial look, stronger suspension, improved automatic transmission system and a rear differential lock in the large trims.

Even though without the update Mitsubishi Triton was the vehicle to go for besides Mitsubishi Xpander and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, the added features reinforced it the choice for many Thailand residents. The 2020 Triton (Updated 2019 models) is available in 9 variants so every buyer can select his better taste.

While the lowest variant (Single Cab 2.5 GL 5MT) in Thailand is sold at THB 535,000, the most expensive variant (Double Cab 2.5 4WD Athlete AT) retails at THB 1,146,000.

Carrying a 2.5 L engine made from aluminium alloy block, the Athlete engine powers 181 PS when revving at 3,500 rpm and 430Nm at only 2,500rpm. By improving the fuel efficiency by 20% during the update, is the Triton now worth buying?

Mitsubishi Triton Performance and Transmission

To tame the 430Nm powered by the 4-cylinder DOHC 16 v Turbo Charger Intercooler, Mitsubishi Triton Athlete offers the option to select the right drive system to tackle the road challenge. The four options include 2H (2WD High Range), 4H (4WD High Range), 4HLc (4WD High Range With Locked Centre Differential) and 4HLc (4WD Low Range With Locked Centre Differential.

Transmitting the energy to the wheels is a MT 6-speed transmission system. For the Triton Athlete to absorb every shock coil spring is utilized. For a smooth ride, it adopts a double-wishbone front suspension system and a leaf spring rear suspension.

Despite the unimaginable drivetrain, this pickup is very economical.

Mitsubishi Triton Safety Systems

As you engage the 6th gear, your safety is well taken care of by the cluster of safety features incorporated in the operating systems.

Seated at the driver’s cockpit, you can easily see every blind spot, thanks to the Blind Spot Warning that’s automatically activated from speeds above 10km/h and sends signals to the driver. For you to avoid forward collisions, Mitsubishi Triton is fitted with a Forward Collision Mitigation System.

While the Rear Cross-Traffic Alert informs the driver of an imminent danger when the reverse gear is engaged, the Multi Around Monitor displays any blind spot thereby avoiding any obstacle even from above.

Mitsubishi Triton Facial Uplift

The sporty and bold design adopted by the new  Mitsubishi Triton requires no analyst for the blind to see. Looking at the huge black front bumper, the BI-LED headlamps and the deep sunken LED daylight running lights combined with indicator lights, the front end is truly thrilling.

On buying the Triton, black side steps ushers you into a cabin characterized by two-tone synthetic and leather seats with the words “Athlete” embroidered on them. The cabins space and practicality are large beyond anyone’s imagination.

Conclusion
