Blackbird is an open-source OSINT tool designed to help investigators find publicly accessible user accounts across multiple online platforms. It searches for profiles using usernames or email addresses, making it useful for digital investigations, online identity research, and authorized security assessments.
The tool includes WhatsMyName integration, customizable search options, and several export formats for documenting investigation results. Researchers can save findings as PDF or CSV files and review HTTP response data for further analysis.
Blackbird can complement other open-source OSINT tools when investigators need to correlate public account information across multiple services.
Blackbird is hosted on GitHub. Before installing it, ensure that Python and Git are available on your system. The following commands clone the repository and install its listed Python dependencies.
git clone https://github.com/p1ngul1n0/blackbird.git cd blackbird
Install the dependencies listed in the project’s requirements file:
pip install -r requirements.txt
For better dependency isolation, consider creating and activating a Python virtual environment before installing the requirements. Consult the repository’s README for the current Python version requirements and installation guidance.
After installation, run the script from the repository directory. Replace the example usernames and email addresses with the values you are authorized to investigate.
Pass one or more usernames to search for corresponding accounts across supported platforms:
python blackbird.py --username username1 username2 username3
This approach is useful when investigating known aliases or checking whether a username appears on multiple public services.
Use the email option to investigate account associations for specified addresses:
python blackbird.py --email email1@email.com email2@email.com email3@email.com
Search results should be treated as leads rather than definitive proof that separate accounts belong to the same person. Validate findings against reliable public sources before drawing conclusions.
To save an email search in PDF format, add the PDF option to the command:
python blackbird.py --email email1@email.com --pdf
Exported results can help organize findings for case notes, evidence review, and investigation reports. Check the tool’s documentation for additional export options and the expected output locations.
Blackbird can support username enumeration and public account discovery, but its results may be incomplete or outdated. Use the tool only for legitimate research, authorized investigations, or security work. Handle email addresses and other personal information responsibly, and follow applicable privacy laws and platform terms.
Review the source code, current documentation, and available updates in the official Blackbird GitHub repository before running the tool in an investigation environment.
